Meeting With Constituents About Environmental Rights
July 19, 2019

Residents of Don Valley West are taking action against climate change! On February 8th, I signed the David Suzuki Foundation MP Pledge for Environmental Rights and look forward to working with these inspiring women to advocate for the #right2healthyenv. Much to be done, but we are starting with the price on pollution. Good for the environment and the economy.

As more Canadians take on the responsibility of doing what they can to protect our environment, we get closer to finding solutions. I’m encouraged that our government is taking climate change seriously and creating the biggest drop in pollution in the history of Canada’s emissions reporting. Our government knows that if you don’t have a plan for the environment, you don’t have a plan for the economy or the future. While protecting the environment, we’re creating good middle-class jobs in the clean industry sectors that are growing fast around the world.

I’m excited about our progress so far but our government has to do even more. Our bold decision to impose a ban on harmful single-use plastics is an important step in the right direction as it will help keep our coastlines and fresh waterways cleaner and has the potential to generate more than 85,000 new middle-class jobs as the reuse and recycling of plastics increases. The next step is to continue to modernize our energy infrastructure as we work towards our total elimination of coal power by 2030.
