Assalam Alaikum.
I’m pleased to extend my warmest greetings on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr to the Muslim community in Don Valley West and Muslims across Canada.
Eid is a time to be thankful for the blessings of the holy month. Throughout Ramadan we are reminded, through fasting, of the hardship faced by those less fortunate. On Eid, Muslims begin their day by giving to charity and including the poor in their celebrations.
Through my deep friendship with the wonderful Muslim communities in Don Valley West, I have come to know Eid as a joyous festival when families, friends, and neighbours gather to share food and gifts. As the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said “Eid is a day of eating, drinking, and remembrance of God.” Eid unites communities and is an opportunity to build bonds of friendship and love.
I wish all those celebrating a very happy and joyous Eid.
Eid Mubarak!
Sincerely,
Rob Oliphant,
M.P. Don Valley West
