Whether it’s helping to keep our roads safe, supporting and improving public transit, managing wastewater and solid waste or supporting our energy distribution systems, the federal Gas Tax Fund is making a difference in our community.
For Toronto, it means $159 million this year alone in funding for infrastructure priorities. The federal Gas Tax Fund has already made a difference in Don Valley West, especially through investments in our transit system (this includes the purchase of replacement buses, new streetcars and the new Light Rail Transit vehicles).
The vision and work of my predecessor, the Hon. John Godfrey, long-time Don Valley West M.P. and Minister of State for Infrastructure and Communities in the government of Paul Martin, established the federal Gas Tax Fund as a source of predictable, long-term funding to help Canadian municipalities build and revitalize public infrastructure. The Government of Canada is proud to continue to help municipalities build the Canada of the 21st century and ensure a high quality of life for generations to come.
