Hon. Robert Oliphant
Member of Parliament for Don Valley West
Meeting With The Bob Rumball Foundation About Bill C-81
July 24, 2019

Thanks Karen Chambers for updating me on The Bob Rumball Foundation for the Deaf employment and housing programs for people who are deaf. Our government is committed to pushing for equal participation of people with disabilities in Canada through Bill C-81, the #AccessibleCanada Act. For over 30 years, the Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf has provided the Deaf Community a space without communication barriers. Their provision of services to the Deaf community  has greatly improved the quality of life of Deaf people who need support in Don Valley West and across Canada.

Our government greatly appreciates the commitment and engagement of the disability community and groups such as the Bob Rumball Foundation on Bill C-81. Community engagement has been key at every stage of the Accessible Canada Act, throughout its development and the parliamentary process. Continued involvement will help ensure Bill C-81 will improve the lives of millions of persons with disabilities across Canada who face barriers to accessibility and inclusion every day. The disability community has waited too long. We share their desire to see timely and meaningful progress toward a truly accessible and inclusive Canada; and we are all working together to ensure that the proposed Accessible Canada Act becomes law without delay.
