The Valentines for Vets initiative by Veterans Affairs Canada is an amazing opportunity for Canadians to thank our veterans for their service to our country. On February 13th, students from Northlea Elementary & Middle School braved the weather to bring music, joy, and gratitude to the veterans at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre’s Veterans Center.
The gift that the Northea students brought to the largest veterans’ care facility in Canada was highly appreciated. I saw many smiling faces among the veterans and many remarked in our conversations that the presence of the young people had brightened their day.
I am proud that our government has kept our promise to respect and support our veterans. We have reopened Veterans Affairs offices across the country, increased mental health supports, and reinstated the Pension for Life program to support veterans for the rest of their lives. Today was a reminder of our need to live up to our obligations to Canadian veterans and their families to give them the support they deserve.
