I was honoured to be appointed by the Prime Minister as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
It is a privilege to work with the Honourable Chrystia Freeland to ensure constructive Canadian leadership in the world and to promote Canada’s interests and values globally. I have always been a proponent of Canada playing an important role in the international community, and my new role has allowed me to continue my work on this important issue.
Canada plays a unique role on the international stage as we address the most pressing challenges our world faces: climate change, peace and security, gender rights and the promotion of human rights. These critical issues require strong international partnerships, a commitment to key objectives and, most importantly, a leader. Minister Freeland and I are striving to make Canada that leader.
Some of Canada’s notable foreign policy achievements since I have taken on my new role include the lifting of U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs that led to the New NAFTA ratification process, leading a parliamentary delegation to China raising a number of key issues, and trips to several countries, including Columbia concerning the situation in Venezuela.
