Inaugural Filipino Heritage Month Celebration In Don Valley West

On June 26th, I was pleased to host the first-ever Filipino Heritage Month event in Thorncliffe Park at R.V. Burgess

Park. Thank you to all the participants, organizers, and wonderful performers who made this inaugural event such a success!

I am proud that our government named June Filipino heritage month showing official appreciation of the Filipino community for their important contribution throughout Canadian history. The Filipino community is a crucial one in making our country the rich and vibrant place it is today: this community is one of the largest foreign-born groups in Canada.

Canada has succeeded–culturally, politically, economically–because of its diversity, not in spite of it. Fortunately, building a diverse and inclusive society by promoting and encouraging awareness, understanding and respect for many different cultures is at the top of our government’s priorities.

Happy Filipino Heritage Month!
